Seekonk, September 8, 2009

When the inland fresh water is frozen, Narragansett Bay is often clear.  Bold Point Park, across from Providence, is a great place to launch.  Easy to get to, plenty of parking (at least early in the morning in the middle of winter!), and loads of directions to go.

This trip, Chris and I explored up the Seekonk.

In spite of the lateness of the year, we weren't the only people out on the river.

Swans, trees, and industry.  That about sums up Seekonk - a delightful mix of beauty and rusted  steel.

I don't think the trains use this bridge any more.

This lovely house is actually a mausoleum in Swan Point Cemetery!  (HP Lovecraft is buried somewhere back behind those trees).

The power company was stringing new wires across the water.  These guys were at the end of the longest cherry picker I have ever seen.  It was way up there.

The Seekonk used to power mills, so every direction you go ends in a dam.  I guess this is as far upstream as we can go!
