2008 trip to the Florida Keys

February 2008.  We left the frozen north with our kayaks on the car and headed down the Eastern Seaboard to the Florida Keys.

The paddling was great, as was the key-lime pie.

One of the strangest parts of the trip for me was paddling into breaking 73 degree waves - getting soaked and yet being comfortably warm.  Very alien to this northerner!!!!

Packing to go.  All this will fit in the car?

Driving down - somewhere on the East Coast

We've arrived at Palmer's on Little Torch Key.  Not a snowflake in sight!

Blue-green water, white sand, waving palm trees - this looks like a post card!

Oh yeah.  This is what we came for.

We had to rent short boats to go exploring in the mangrove swamp.

Lots of birds, like this yellow crowned night heron. What's a night heron doing up in the middle of the day?

Alligators love the warm weather too.

 The sunset from Key West.

It was a great trip.
